VOLUNTEER

Museum Docents:

The museum welcomes volunteer docents to greet and show people around our exhibits and to explain the history of the museum itself but also the history of the railroad industry, especially as depicted by the model railroad exhibit. Our friendly docents point out unique items on display and answer questions asked by the museum's visitors. The museum provides training and scripts outlining the highlights and most frequently asked questions.

Excursions and Special Events:

Our museum welcomes thousands of visitors a year who attend our themed excursions and special events. During special events, such as Polar Express, the museum needs a lot more help to provide all the services required. If you belong to a group, such as a church choir, cheer-leading and many others, the museum will make a donation to the group at the conclusion of the event.

Buildings and Grounds:

There are always thing to do in and around the building. Some examples of grounds keeping are trimming bushes, planting and maintaining flower beds, making minor repairs to the deck or display buildings. The museum also invites skilled model makers, scenery experts and others to work on the operating model railroad display.

Mechanics:

The museum owns two classic diesel locomotives and a fleet of passenger cars. We are always looking for knowledgeable people willing to come out to share their expertise in maintaining and improving this equipment.
