Opening Day

Opening Day Address by Founder Martin Phelps (April 13th, 1997)

WITH SINCERE GRATITUDE TO: Tom and Helen Hickey, the previous owners of this building. Their faith in me and my vision of a museum, to preserve the rich heritage of the railroads for future generations was paramount in making this dream a reality. Not only did they provide financial assistance with the mortgage, making it possible for me to obtain the property but additionally with consistent and sincere support when it was most needed and appreciated. Through all the opposition and declarations of this being a project that would never be followed through, a poor one at best, Tom and Helen encouraged me to pursue my dream. I thank them and wish only that I could properly articulate what they have meant to me and this community.

(GAELIC) Thank you loyal friends.
